Telynau Elgar


2005 USEF Leading Pony Breeding Sire

Elgar was purchased as a foal in 1997 from the Telynau stud, North Wales. He had been successfully and extensively shown in Great Britain before being exported in the fall of 1998. His Sire, Eyarth Rio, has been several times on top of the British sire ratings. His lovely dam was a daughter of the internationally renowned performance producing stallion, Downland Chevalier, now deceased. Some of the awards won by Elgar as a 2 year old, after arrival in North America are:

  • Virginia WPCS Spring Fling - Champion Sec. B colt (under Len Bigley U.K. and Mr. Eric Caleca U.S)
  • BelAir Classic - Champion Section B colt (Richard Strauss and Cecil Dunn U.S judges)
  • Pennmarydel WPCS show - Champion Section B (Gary Baker), Reserve Supreme Champion (Clive Morse U.K)
  • NEWPA International WPCS show - Supreme Champion (Dewi Evans U.K)
  • Maryland Pony Breeders WPCS show - Supreme Champion (Maureen Lapicola U.S)
  • Mid-Atlantic WPCS show - Supreme Champion (Shirley Fox U.S)

Elgar was only shown twice in 2002, at the WPCS Virginia Spring Fling and the WPCS Mid-Atlantic Shows, and was Supreme Champion under all judges. Since that time Elgar has been consistently producing prizewinning offspring with kind temperaments, good movement and conformation.Some of his more well known sons and daughters to date are:
